Question by Still Naive: I’m sick, and it angers my dad. Seriously what?
Alright, so, my dad is an awesome father. He really is, he’s always been there for me through anytime I needed help. But he can be an idiot sometimes, and if there is one thing that annoys me about him, it’s when I get sick.
Since I was born, I’ve always had asthma problems. Being a Chronic Asthmatic all my life. I am a regular host to Bronchitis.Which always ends up with me laying in a hospital bed. Because I know this, whenever I get a cold, I treat it as soon as possible; so that I do not end up strapped to a tube.
This has happened for years. When I was younger, he use to get me medicine, make me soup, etc.
However, ever since about almost six years ago; he re-married. [ Now I don't hate my stepmother, she is a nice person, etc. ] Since then, his outlook on things have changed. He has switched to pure organic food. [ I mean super pure. Glass bottles of milk, rotten cheese, etc. ] I don’t mind it, I like it, but that’s not the problem.
Since then, he has found a pure hatred for Medication. Any types of Medication, from over the counter, to prescription drugs. [ He believes in "Natural Cures." It does work, it really does, and I don't mind it. ]
Recently, I’ve came home from College for Vacation. Second day I was here, I got sick. I did what I always did, I tried to treat it before hand. But because I lack any ‘real’ medication, I’m only getting worse and worse. Days have passed, and I’ve been coughing, mucus spitting, headaches, fatigue. Last night I couldn’t sleep because I started to choke on my own bodily fluids, and had trouble breathing.
I was alright, but I knew it was getting worse. So this morning, I told my father, if he can make me soup. Or at the LEAST allow me to get some Mortin, or Ny-Quil.
That’s when he got mad at me, saying I didn’t need medicine, and said. “Oh, now your sick?”
What really bugged the heck out of me, especially since I’ve been sick “Out in the Open.” It wasn’t that hard to notice.
I just like to know if anyone else thinks he’s being a little unreasonable about this?
What’s $ 4 bucks for Ny-Quil compared to a $ 200 Medical Bill, un-including the $ 100+ Prescription medication?
I would buy it myself, however, I had given him all my spending money so him, so he could order my Birth Certificate [Because I don't have a Visa. And You have to have your name 'somewhere' on the original birth certificate in order to purchase a new one. ]
Any suggestions here?
I really don’t want to become childish and call my Mother [Birth] and tell her I need Medicine. [Because she'll ask questions why my father can't. I''ll end up telling her the truth, she'll get mad, call my father. Curse him out ((She's protective of my health)) then my stepmother will find out my mother talked to my father (( Bad blood between both women. )) And She'll curse him out too, then in the end. My Dad will curse me out. Messed up, eh? ]]

Ask your dad what medical school he went to that qualifies him to make medical decisions. This is one time where you HAVE to stand your ground. This might make him mad but he is NOT a qualified medical expert and he needs to be told that in no uncertain terms. If he had appendicitis would he go to a natural foods store or a surgeon? Tell him if he wants to make medical decisions for anyone other than himself he needs to go to medical school and become a doctor otherwise he could be considered to be practicing medicine without a license which is a felony. Your dad is NOT a doctor and he needs to be told… NOW.

Your father is being unreasonable. Deep down he is probably just really scared by your illness. He needs to grow up and deal with the fact that some medical conditions can not be treated with natural foods.
You need to go to the doctor. Asthma is serious. I know because I have it too. If I were having the symptoms you’ve described, I’d be in the hospital.
Go to the doctor. Explain the situation to the doctor. Ask the doctor to explain asthma to your father.
Pleasing your father is not worth risking your life. Do what ever you need to do to take care of yourself!
Personally, I think he needs to be cursed out!
